Fat Cow + What I Wore Today!

Went to town (pretty much the only place I go to when I'm out) with the mother & brother today for a much needed break from revision!

Every time I'm back for holidays, one of the top food destinations on my list is without fail, Fat Cow. I always order the same thing - their signature Wagyu Donburi. Definitely try this dish if its your first time heading to Fat Cow. I even came close to ordering a second bowl out of pure greed....
Fat Cow Donburi & miso soup

After the meal, we headed to run some errands at ION & Taka. Considering it was a Monday, town was rather crowded. Headed to MBS to play jackpot do more shopping after winning it!  haha I kid..
Some pictures of what I wore today! Rather casual, yet dressy enough to be appropriate for a restaurant. All my outfit details will be below.

One of my favorite colors when it comes to fashion is red, hence this red silk top. I think the silk & lace on these shorts really complement each other. Plus, with the lace-covered gems adorning the neckline of the top, it just ties the whole outfit together.
Top: Khoon Hooi (malaysian designer)
Black lace shorts: Miss Selfridge
Clutch: YSL glitter belle du jour
Sunglasses: Prada Baroque

*accessories*
Rings: YSL arty / Mimanera jewelry / Cartier (from L to R)
Bracelet: Hermes Rivale

Glad to be back on my blog, though posts will be rather short & sweet for the next couple of weeks due to exams :( so please bare with me for the time being!

Monthly Favorites: December 2013

Hello from Singapore! Here's acknowledgement that I'm still well & alive. Though with exams round the corner, probably more alive than well right now.. hah.
Trust me, I've been itching to update this space. Whoever decided to put exams right after the holidays is probably the Grinch who stole Christmas!

Since there are only 2 days left to the new year, thought I would share some of my favorite products from the month of December 2013 in my comeback post!

p.s./ Products are in no particular order!

1) Dior Addict lip glow

I love the formula of Dior's lipsticks. Would probably even go so far as to say they're my favorite brand for them! I'm no beauty guru but I can attest to the fact that Dior's lip products are really moisturizing, which is a selling point for me when it comes to lipsticks.
The lip glow is a lip balm, although it does have some color to it. Its meant to change to a shade of pink when applied on your lips - the shade of pink it changes to varies from person to person. Although its rather sheer, it does inject some color & shine to your lips! Don't know how it works.. probably magic.
Honestly wear this more than regular lipsticks. I prefer sheer lip colors anyways so the fact that this doubles up as a lip balm is like killing 2 birds with 1 stone!

2) EOS lip balm
Seeing as how I live in a cold climate half the time, it is only natural that I have not 1, but 2 favorite lip balms to ensure that my lips don't get chapped.
I've been eyeing this up after seeing it on several beauty blog & being drawn to its unique shape. However, I thought it was only available in the states but ended up spotting it at Selfridges in the UK! It spells (& tastes) really good too!

3) Kerastase hair mask
(^2nd picture is mine)
I must admit.. I haven't really taken the best care of my hair the past few months, something my mom will be disappointed to hear.
Used this mask & my hair feels so much better! Although you're only supposed to use coin-sized amounts per use, I feel like just pouring all the contents into my hair now.... Would definitely recommend their shampoo & hair serum too! They've many different variations for different hair types so you should probably ask your hair stylist to match their product to your hair type for you. I'm using the one for dry & rebellious hair (see pic above).

4) Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua
Nothing much to say except that it provides the right amount of coverage for my skin. It's quite sheer so it would be perfect for someone who only needs minimal coverage. But its quite buildable as well so it might work on someone who needs slightly more coverage too.
Definitely go check it out.
For reference, I'm using 10 Beige. I can't quite remeber but its either the lightest or second lightest shade. So maybe if you're Edward Cullen you can use the shade as me? ;)

5) Chanel CoCo Mademoiselle

(^ my pic. what the handbag size looks like)
Dare I say it, but I prefer Chanel's CoCo Mademoiselle over its signature No.5 scent, for everyday use at least. I don't feel sophisticated/grown up enough to use No. 5 yet. Maybe next year when I hit my 20's?
I own a handbag size of this & would definitely recommend getting it. Its so much easier to carry it around so you can touch up during the day. Once it runs out, all you need to do is just buy a refill.

6) Bioderma cleansing oil
Great makeup remover! Only problem is that its not readily available in all drugstores though you could try ordering it online.

7) Shanghai Tang room spray
This fragrance is ginger flower. Makes my room smell really fresh. Not too overwhelming where it makes me get a headache after awhile though.
Although it is a room spray, that doesn't mean you can't use it outside the bedroom. My mom uses this is her car as well. I may or may not use it on my sheets at times too.... But just a warning, spray from a distance as it may stain, especially if your bedsheets are white....

8) Laura Mercier hand creme (body & bath range)
I may sound like your mother who constantly nags you to apply moisturizer, but hand cream is honestly your best friend during the winter months. Unfortunately, I've had to learn this the hard way..
Mine is in the fresh fig scent. They have other scents too (e.g. pistachio) but this is my favorite. Been using this since 2011 after my friend lent some to me but I recently re-discovered it after I "learnt the hard way"....

********

Just glanced through my list above & realized I sound like a middle-aged woman (no offence to middle-aged women, I'm going to be one eventually anyways) - I mean the hand cream, room spray.... haha.

Anyways, hope you enjoyed my monthly favorites! Tbh, this list is pretty random and leans towards the beauty/cosmetic side. Just thought I would share!

Was thinking of doing a separate 'Monthly favorites' post for fashion & other random bits and bobs. Would you guys be interested in that?

Quick Update!

Just wanted to do a quick update to keep you guys in the loop.

I haven't been posting as frequently as I would've liked to. Ideally, not only would I like to post more regularly, I would also like to churn out more content for this blog. Apologies as I haven't really been able to do either as of late.

I'm having a little bit of an ordeal at the minute. To make a long (& complicated) story short-ish, I was only made aware exactly a week ago that I had to move out of my current apartment by mid-December as the landlord wants to sell it. This was all down to the incompetence of the estate agents (I'll save that rant for another day). Furthermore, this was also wrong timing as revision lectures for our looming exams were scheduled for this week. You can imagine how miffed I was. To add to the stress, I'm due to fly back home next week so I had to settle the matter fast, unless I wanted to forego spending my winter holiday back in SG, which I definitely do not! Thankfully, after frantically going for a handful of apartment viewings in the span of 2 days, I managed to find a decent apartment. However, I'm now left with boxes of my stuff all strewn across my apartment. With my parents being miles away, I've had to arrange most of the logistics myself.
I've to admit, initially, I felt overwhelmed. After much reflecting, I decided to look at the more positive side of things. I was actually planning to move somewhere slightly closer to school, only later. The place I found is in an ideal location so at least now, I'll be able to wake up extra late for school. For me, the most positive thing to come out of this is that instead of spending a fortune on cab fares whenever I wake up late for class, I'll probably have more $$ in my shopping funds! ;)

Prior to this chaos, I was anticipating more posts this week since my brother is visiting & could easily help with taking photos, etc. Clearly, that plan has gone out the window considering I'm spending most of my time at home, in my jammies, attempting to stuff half of my life into boxes.. Not exactly the most blog-worthy content.

All that being said, I'm hoping to post more when I'm back in Singapore! So sick of living in a thick winter coat - can't wait to don summer clothes again! Oh, & not forgetting all the good food I'm going to consume as well! Although I'm going to be in the midst of preparing for exams (yes, its cruel to be spending Christmas break under a pile of textbooks....), I'm sure I'll still be able to find some extra time here & there!

Thanks for being patient! Hopefully, you'll be seeing more of me soon! ;)

High Street Buys: Shoes { ZARA }

Purchased 2 pairs of shoes from Zara a few weeks ago but never got round to showing them until now.

Leaving Zara empty-handed is a rarity for me. But for some reason, I've never really gravitated towards their shoes. However, I chanced upon these shoes during a sneaky browse through their online shop the other day. Of course, my fingers have a mind of their own and before I knew it, I had all too eagerly keyed in my payment details and checked out. Oops.. Though the price tags on these shoes did make me feel slightly less guilty..

I still haven't quite managed the mammoth task of wearing heels without tripping in the span of approximately 5 minutes. So since both pairs of shoes have a chunky heel instead of a stick thin one, I figured I wouldn't be a walking hazard in them. At least its a baby step in the right direction! (and I probably won't end up on my butt while taking that step.. hah!)

"These boots were made for walking.."

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find the link for this pair on Zara's website anymore. If you're interested, you may want to try heading down to one of their stores to try your luck!

Happy shopping!

Visuals: Glam Leather Look

Just a quick look I put together comprimising pieces I currently have my eye on and pieces that I already own / have something similar to.

Got the leather joggers from Topshop last week. One glance at me and you probably wouldn't place me as the leather joggers wearing sort. Well, you would be wrong. I can't wait to dress it up and wear it on a night out, but for now, I shall do so on a mood board.

To go with the leather joggers, I went with a leather crop top from Topshop (I've been loving their collections lately). If the weather in your part of the world is anything close to the UK's, I would definitely recommend throwing on a fur jacket. Not only does the trick of keeping you warm, (faux) fur always adds an extra layer of glam to any look. For shoes, strappy heels would be suitable for a night out and will help balance out the looser fit of the leather joggers & enhance your legs for days!

My buys: Isabel Marant pour H&M

Last Thursday, I traipsed down to my local H&M in the hopes of scoring a few pieces from the highly anticipated Isabel Marant pour H&M collection.

This was my first time actually bothering to attend a H&M designer collaboration on the day of its launch. I arrived at 8.40a.m, naively thinking I was early. Of course I soon found out that other people were way ahead of the game, having camped outside the store in the wee hours of the morning.

For the record, If you ever want to find a bunch of grown women regressing into mean girls in high school, just head down to an exclusive H&M designer collaboration opening day.
It was quite the experience to say the least. 90% of the experience was watching women charge like a herd of cattle towards the racks. Billboards were toppled over, rude remarks were hurled.. (e.g. "I want to spit on you".. no kidding). Its no wonder H&M had to assemble a whole security team in the form of big burly men to standby on the sidelines of this "warzone".
I would be lying if I didn't admit that the thought of turning into one of them crossed my mind a few times upon finding myself shoving as many items as I could into the depths of my shopping bag whilst fending off middle-aged women from getting all the UK size 6's. You get the picture..

Even though I didn't manage to bag the more coveted pieces from the collection (beaded jacket *ahem* tasseled boots *ahem*), I'm still quite pleased with what I managed to lay my hands on.

To me, Isabel Marant encapsulates a hybrid of the effortless Parisian boho vibe mixed with a rock n' roll edge. I think this was well embodied in this collection, with most pieces seeming to belong in an off-duty model's closet.

I actually got these shorts from the kids' collection. I must admit, the sizes ran slightly big so I found myself being able to fit into most of the kids clothes (although some of the kids sizes were far too big for me as well).

This was a welcome addition due to the imbalanced ratio of gold to silver accessories in my collection.

Out of all the pieces I managed to score, my favorite would probably have to be a tie between the most understated piece of the lot (the white sheer sweater) and the shorts from the kids' range.

Which was YOUR favorite piece? & did you manage to get your hands on anything from the collection as well?

OOTD: Comfy knits!

Back with a "what I wore today to brave the typical English weather" in the form of a good ol' fitting room selfie. Having lived in a tropical climate all my life, I still haven't quite acclimatized to the English (single-digit) weather even after being here for over 2 years. Even when the weather seems to permit other people merely to don a light-weight sweater, I'm THAT person all bundled up in a full on winter jacket & my trusty Uggs - sticking out like a sore thumb big fluffy marshmallow in a cup of tea..

Surprisingly, even with no sign of the English weather being any kinder, I managed to step out of the house with just this cardigan instead of my usual winter jacket (but I just couldn't lose the uggs..). I must say, I didn't expect it to keep me quite as warm as it did!

This knit cardy is from Topshop. I do like my (faux) fur so naturally, I found myself gravitating towards it when I spotted this patch of furriness hanging on the rack. Got my blue sweater from Asos to add a hint of color to break up the black on black on black theme, paired with disco pants from American Apparel. People have told me they resemble leggings/tights. Being an advocate of the "anti leggings-as-pants" cause, I take great offense to this.. Anyways, its called disco PANTS for a reason so don't argue with the name. Adding to the comfort level of this ensemble are my go-to shoes this season - my trusty bailey bow UGGs! I'm sure even the UGG haters will have to agree that the cute little satin bows do much to tone down the UGGly level.

I wore:
Fur sweater - Topshop
Knit jumper - ASOS
Disco pants - American Apparel
Bag - Prada Mini
Earrings - Chanel
Ring - Alexander McQueen
Shoes - UGGs

Fall lovin' !

It's currently 1.10 in the a.m. Armed with a hot cup of milo sat within arm's reach and attempting to fight sleep from consuming my eyelids - perfect combination to start getting back into the swing of blogging, isn't it? haha. Whilst I've been MIA (sorryyyy!), I've amassed a completely new wish-list for the fall.. what's new.. hah.

1) Black (FAUX) fur coat

I've been eyeing up this black faux fur coat from Karl Lagerfeld for awhile now. Not only does it look extremely cosy, it's really quite the staple piece for the fall season (is this the side of me that's trying to justify the 390GBP price tag?). I already have a (faux) fur coat somewhere in my closet but its only a 3/4 length sleeve. I think the length of this particular coat is perfect! This is definitely going on my convince-my-mother-to-get-it-for-me list ;)

2) Sophia Webster cutout sandals

Yes, I'm aware that these probably aren't the most practical item.. Especially when taking into consideration the uneven cobbled streets in the UK. Oh, and not forgetting the most important factor - my ability to trip even while wearing flats. However, I doubt any explanation is needed as to why I just couldn't resist putting these on my list.

3) Alexander McQueen scarf

Scarves are pretty much synonymous with fall.
I love how the edginess of McQueen's iconic skulls contrast with the girly blush pink color of this scarf.

5) Boxy (faux) fur gilet from Topshop

Topshop's boxy faux fur gilet - exactly why I like it.
I don't particularly like boxy-looking garments on my frame but I think it somehow works with this faux fur gilet.
I like the grey color. Still on the fence about the mustard color (according to Topshop's description, its lime??). I don't want to risk getting any big bird jibes. What do you guys think?

6) Nike Air Max leather sneakers
I don't personally think of myself as a sneaker/sport shoes/nike person, nor do I partake in any form of exercise (proof: never seriously used a gym in my life). But after seeing these pair of shoes, I might consider taking up exercise (but don't count on it.. hah!).. If you do workout, you need a nice pair of shoes for every occasion. Therefore, you've reason to get these nikes on my behalf.. JUST DO IT!

7) Distressed jeans
Distressed jeans have been all over this fall season. Who doesn't want to pull off looking like a hobo with a touch of 'effortlessly cool'? hah. All jokes aside, I can't explain why I like looking like an effortlessly cool hobo that has just gotten into a fight with another hobo armed with a pair of scissors.. I just do, okay..
This pair is from Rag & Bone but if you're looking for something more affordable, many high street stores stock cheaper alternatives.

8) Pink platforms x Topshop
Even though it's fall, there's no harm sneaking in a pop of color to brighten up your outfit. Plus, there is no rule against being Barbie at this time of the year.. Now all I need is my Ken Barbie car ;)

That's all for now!
Leave me suggestions for upcoming posts in the comments down below on or on my ask.fm (ask.fm/fashfoodx)
I'll be going down to London this coming week so I'm hoping to that this trip will be fruitful in terms of blog posts (and shoppingggg) !
