Lunch Date

Lunch date with the younger brother earlier today!
Seldom get to spend time with him because he's usually quite busy with school, especially since its his O Level year. Getting him to go out is really difficult and rare. Now that I'm interning as well, I hardly see him throughout the day so seized this opportunity to catch up with him.

Went to EN dining bar to satisfy our cravings for japanese food.

Beef carpaccio - had 4 servings of this....

our favorite wafu steak! my brother ordered 3 servings for us to share too....

Sashimi platter

Garlic fried rice

Soft-shell crab maki

Matcha tiramisu x Matcha ice-cream
Couldn't resist this even though I'm having a cough because anything matcha/green-tea flavored is my weakness. Clearly need to exercise more self-control.. haha

As a growing teenage boy my brother naturally has a bigger appetite so whenever I'm with him I tend to eat more as well.. As you can imagine, we were stuffed by the end of the meal.
At this rate, I really need to hit up the gym soon!

Paired this white peplum crop top with my current favorite pair of ripped shorts from Topshop and a long cardi from my recent trip to Korea. To top that off, I donned the gladiator sandals that I got recently - not only do they instantly dress up any outfit, they make for a great pair of comfortable walking shoes as well!

Always have such random endings..
Anways, hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Working life // Sunday Brunch

Sorry for the lack of updates on this space for the past week.
I've just started my internship at a law firm and as you can imagine, it's keeps me pretty busy on the weekdays. By the time I get home its late evening and I'm usually in bed shortly after in order to get up early the next morning.. It's only my first week but I've come to realize that I should savor my last year in uni because working life is way tougher.... Needless to say though, besides having to adjust to early morning starts, its been quite an interesting first week at work for me and this is probably the most useful I've felt in the past 2 months of summer break ;)

Still haven't forgotten about my Korea posts though! I've 2 more parts which I'll be posting soon so do keep a lookout!

Went out for brunch today at ChopSuey Cafe at Martin Road for some fusion "zichar". It's under the PS Cafe franchise and right next door to it as well.

"AN EAST-MEETS-WEST ESCAPE - Chopsuey Cafe presents an array of Chinese Comfort favorites and new interpretations of traditional foods influenced by the Anglo-Chinese experience in the UK, US and Australia."

Sticky Crunchy Squid for starters.

Crispy Orange Beef (a.k.a Rusty Snails)

Mud Crab Fried Rice

Chilli soft-shell crab

Steamed Banana Pudding for dessert.

Fortune cookies! #cheapthrills
at least I got a good fortune :)

Felt quite liberating to wear non-work appropriate clothes for the first time in a week!

Top: Bangkok // Skirt: Bangkok // Sandals: Korea // Bag: Prada

Another abrupt ending but I'll be back with more posts soon!
Back to work tmrw for me but enjoy your long national day weekend if you've one!

Happy 49th Birthday, Singapore!

Happy 49th Birthday, Singapore!

No matter where I am, I'll always call Singapore home.
There is still room for improvement, but we should not discount the progress we've made - from a tiny fishing village to a vibrant city, Singapore has truly transformed by leaps and bounds in our 49 years of independence.
Living abroad has made me realize how truly lucky we are to live in the harmonious "bubble" that is Singapore.

Photo credit : thank you Google images
Photo credit : also Google Images ;)

Some NDP songs to be patriotic.. haha. Must say we come up with some pretty catchy NDP tunes :)

and on a lighter note....

Happy National Day to all!
& to those who will be having a long weekend, enjoy it although I don't have one myself.... haha

KOREA 2014 x Part 2 : Days 3 - 5

Back with part 2 of my Korea trip, which will mainly be on Busan where I spent 3 days. Since we already had 6 days in Seoul, we wanted to venture out and eventually decided to visit Busan which once was the temporary capital of Korea and the second largest city after Seoul.

If you haven't already read part 1, you may read it here.

DAY 3

Took the KTX from Seoul Station to get to Busan.
Only bought our tickets when we got to the station instead of booking it beforehand because we found the website too confusing. We were lugging around a big luggage with stuff for our 3 days getaway from Seoul so we booked first class in order to get more space. Just a word of advice though - if you can avoid it, do try to pack light if you're going on board the KTX as you've to carry your luggage up & down the train carriage yourself.
Train journey was close to 3 hours and we reached Busan in the late afternoon.

Grabbed a cab to our hotel, Hotel Aventree, which was located in the Nampo-dong area where there are a ton of shops, including the big-name Korean cosmetic brands - kind of like the Myeongdong of Busan. More conveniently enough, our hotel was right above a shopping mall.
Room was very new since this hotel only just opened a few months ago.

Lunch at this Korean-Chinese restaurant in the mall below our hotel. Seemed to be quite famous because they had posters of celebrities that had gone to visit.
Finally got to try authentic jajangmyun! Their mandu (Korean dumplings) weren't bad either.

Started to rain quite heavily in the evening, soon after we headed out of our hotel so we had to go back indoors.

Dinner at CoCo Inchibanya since it was just inside the mall our hotel was above and it was still raining.

DAY 4

Kind of had dessert for breakfast this morning.... at the Korean Dessert Cafe. Wanted to go there for dessert after dinner the night before since it was in the same mall but was too full by then.
From what I've read online, this is a very famous chain that first opened in Busan but now has many branches nationwide, including Seoul. Had read about this cafe before coming to Busan but forgot about it, only to find that it was in the mall below my hotel! So convenient.

According to the reviews I've read, the injeolmi toast was supposed to be the best so we got that (right), as well as the honey one (can't really remember its name but its on the left with ice-cream). So sinfully delicious!

I think this salon right opposite the cafe is quite famous? - pictures of celebs all along its walls including the likes of Jay Park and Kim Woo Bin from The Heirs.

My Korean friend Jinhee whom I've known since our foundation days in London lives in Busan and was kind enough to take me around for the day :)
Met her at Shinsegae Departmental Store which is apparently the world's largest, even beating out Macy's in New York. Shinsegae is near the Haeuendae beach area and took around 45mins for us to get there by cab from our hotel. According to my friend, Nampo-dong used to be the place to hang out but Haeundae is quickly taking its place. Haeundae definitely did seem newer and more modern with all the tall buildings clustered in that area.
Spent nearly the whole day just walking around Shinsegae and catching up with Jinhee!

Famous croquette stall in Shinsegae's food hall.

Patbingsu and green tea latte at Twosome+ Coffee.

Naengmyeon (Korean cold noodles in chilled broth) at the food court in Shinsegae. Super refreshing!

Went back to the Korean Dessert Cafe below our hotel for dessert after coming back from Shinsegae.

Finally got to try their Sulbing which they seem to be most famous for! Definitely different from the usual patbingsu but still yummy!
- Injeolmi Sulbing -

DAY 5

Was our last day in Busan so we just roamed around the shops of Nampo-dong since they were right at the doorstep of our hotel.
Thankfully the sun decided to come out on our last day and it didn't rain!

Dumped all of my shopping back in the room and couldn't resist immediately changing into a top I bought from one of the shops..

For lunch we had street food at BIFF (Busan International Film Festival) Square which was only a 2mins walk from our hotel.

By noon the lunchtime crowd started to emerge.

Famous hotteok stall that my friend Jinhee recommended. Apparently Busan is supposed to be famous for hotteok.
You definitely can't miss this stall because it was the most crowded and had a long line snaking all the way around it.

Savoury yet sweet, crispy yet chewy.
Definitely worth the queue!

Nomnomnomming.

Went back to Korean Dessert Cafe to try their red bean sulbing for dessert. I miss this! :(

On the KTX heading back to Seoul!
"Seoul" long, farewell, Busan!

Will definitely go back to Busan the next time I go to Korea because I didn't even get to cover all the places I wanted to visit (i.e. Hauendae beach, Jagalchi Market) due to the rainy weather putting a dampener on my plans and a lack of time.

-

Keep a lookout for the next part of my Korea trip soon!
