Mini haul! (FEP + Haji lane)

So if you've read my previous blog post, you'll know that I had a little outing to Far East Plaza. Haven't been there in a long time - it's probably been over a year. Compared to the stretch of massive malls dominating Orchard Rd, Far East Plaza doesn't seem to fit. Stepping foot FEP on Wednesday, I didn't expect to buy much.. Well, let's just say, my arm was aching from being loaded with shopping bags by the end of the day.
I found the coolest "junk" (a good kind of "junk") in FEP that you probably won't be able to find in the big malls lining Orchard Rd. Those malls are too mainstream for my liking now ;)

Got a few clothing items but I'm going to save those for #ootd posts in the near future!

The rest of the stuff I bought ~
#01 : Persplex cork wedges (Plain Jane)
#02 : One direction phone case ;)
#03 : Gun mug
#04 : Chanel-esque headband
#05 : H&M Silver ID bracelet
#06 : Hamburger luggage tag

Persplex cork wedges by the brand Plain Jane
I've been looking for a pair exactly like these. Was so glad when I spotted them! I actually saw these at another shop but in the heels version instead of wedges. I almost paid $70 for them even though I was looking for them in wedges. So when I saw these at another shop selling for a steal of $29, I knew we were meant to be and immediately nabbed them!
Probably one of my fav purchases of the day!

  • Got the 1D phone case as a joke since I like them and I just thought it would be funny if I rocked this on my iphone 4 in public. I can imagine getting judgmental stares when I whip out my phone in public already.. hahha. Justified it cos it was only $5.. and anyways, protecting my phone serves as a pretty practical purpose right?
  • Bought the Chanel inspired headband at $9. Don't really wear headbands too often but if I did, I would wear this. If you're interested, the store I got this from is called Blanc Blanche Studio. They had other little cute knick knacks as well and I would've bought more if I wasn't already nearly broke. hahh. The shop keeper was a Japanese guy who told us they imported their items from Japan!
  • Gun mug was from UN the blackground. Don't ask me why I got it.. I was just weirdly drawn to it when I saw it sitting on shelf. Just to be clear, I'm definitely not a supporter of guns as weapons. But anything that has a FAKE gun on it, I'm oddly drawn to.. (i.e. the phillipe stark gun lamp. HINTHINT)
H&M silver ID bracelet
Reminds me of the Celiné ID jewelry. At $12.90, you can't go wrong!

Hamburger luggage tag.
Also bought this from Blanc Blanche, the same shop I bought the Chanel inspired headband at. Rachel got a popcorn one which was really cool as well!
I feel like this luggage tag describes me perfectly..

Now for the loot I got at Haji lane 2 weeks ago!
Didn't really buy much but in hindsight, I'm glad I didn't anyways since it meant I could spend more at FEP ;)
Got these super cute socks (french fries, snow white + asian girl) to wear inside my boots when I'm back in the uk!

Tassel necklace.
This picture isn't doing much justice to the necklace. I promise it definitely looks better when on! It still might not be everyone's cup of tea but I thought it was pretty quirky to have curtain tassels hanging around my neck.. What do you think?

That's all for my mini haul!
Like I said earlier, I'll be doing #ootd posts with the clothes I bought soon so keep your eye out for that!
If you would like to see more hauls like that, you can donate money to my bank account so I can shop in order to have a haul to do :P ........

An eventful Wednesday! (26/08/2013)

Had a rather eventful Wednesday which mainly constituted of my 2 favorite past-times - eating, shopping.... and more eating. Great day with even greater company!
Here are some visuals you can feast your eyes on (literally) from the latter activity.

Met Rachel at Far East Plaza with a common goal in mind - to be victims of consumerism.. But of course, this could only be accomplished after a nice lunch at The Sushi Bar (yes, that is the actual name..). Tucked away at the corner of the 3rd floor, you wouldn't expect to find it amongst all the shops. With as many  tables and shakey stools they could cram into their unit, don't let its unassuming exterior fool you. I don't know if the food just tastes better because of the reallh reasonable prices or if it is really that good.. Either way, it's still good so who cares!

Scallop mentaiki
$13.90

Sirloin steak (100grams)
$14.90

My main course - Premium chirashi don
$39.90
*price varies depending on the selection of ingredients on the day.

After shopping with Rachel, I ambled over Mandarin Gallery to meet my friend from uni at Ippudo, aching feet and all! Was honored I could be witness to her  first experience of the best ramen ever! The 7p.m queue stretched outside the restaurant. However, we managed to score a table surprisingly quickly as there were only 2 of us. Although I was tuckered out from the day's shopping (who knew even shopping could take its toll on you.. or maybe I'm just really unfit), being greeted by a piping hot bowl of IPPUDO ramen was such a relief!
Akamaru Shin-Aji (modern tonkotsu)
$19.00
(If you prefer a stronger taste of miso, go for this instead of the original tonkotsu)

I ordered the one with the tamago option so it came to $19. The runny egg was all kinds of amazing.... My friend ordered the Akamaru Chashu (simmered pork belly) and added the tamago separately. I like how you get the option to add more of what you like into your ramen! If I hadn't eaten so much during the day, I would've probably added an extra tamago (runny egg) because it was just that good!

For dessert, we were initially planning on going to Antoinette but they were closed early for minor renovations.. BOO.
Settled on The Providore instead as the red velvet cake certainly caught our eye!
From the red velvet cakes I've tried before, I've deduced that I'm not a big fan of the red velvet and cream cheese combination. However, I'm pretty sure this wasn't cream cheese as I actually found this to be one of the better red velvet cakes I've tried!
Will be heading back to The Providore for more than dessert in the future as they seem to have interesting dishes.

Bangkok trip! (part 2)

Apologies for the recent tardiness - my lack of blog posts! But I guess "better late than never", right?
Here's the continuation of my Bangkok trip - Days 4 through 6!
Enjoy!

**

DAY 4
Hit the shops at Siam Centre first thing in the morning!

The Magnum cafe.
After flipping through the menu, we were planning on coming back but were unable to due to time constraints (spending too much time in shops..). There'll always be a next time!

Walking advertisements

One of the many shops in Siam Centre..

Settled on Greyhound Cafe for lunch after having been there on a previous trip.
Really love its urban vibe. More importantly, the thai food doesn't stray from being authentic.

The food........
Thai tea granita.

Lychee slushie.
Perfect refresher to battle the humidity with!

Beef noodles

Dessert........

Got my hair done after lunch..
had curls in my hair but you can't see a thing in this picture.. ugh.

Trying on clothes at Milin!
Wanted to get this dress but was an indecent length on me. Wouldn't have felt comfortable wearing this out in public..

muay thai match in the middle of the mall
inspired to take up self-defence classes.. all I need now is a pair of pink boxing gloves ;)

other cafes in the mall..

Mr Jones' Orphanage. Tried our luck several times but it seems that the queue doesn't disappear no matter what time of the day it is.. :(

even the toilets are hip..
every cubicle has a quote plastered on the back of the door.
Isn't this so true? :P

who needs to go to S.E.A aquarium when the food court in Bangkok have one on their tables?

pork ball noodle soup

Day 5
As it was a Saturday, it was a given that we went to the weekend Chatuchak market (JJ market). So we donned our flip flops and shorts, and braved the 10a.m crowd. The blistering heat and narrow alleyways oddly enough, lends the market its charm.

After walking around for a bit, we decided to stop at this tea house for a cooler.
Mint tea + green tea w/ milk

After duking it out with the humidity, we hopped on the BTS (train) and headed to the Urban Retreat spa for a well deserved one and a half hour massage.

Went to MK (the equivalent of Jumbo/Cocoa in Thailand) for a steamboat lunch at Terminal 21.

After lunch, we left for Siam Centre to continue shopping, of course.
Had dinner at this restaurant I can't remember the name of now. If you're interested, it was just directly opposite Greyhound Cafe in Siam Centre. It looked rather empty compared to the line outside Greyhound. The food was not too bad though!

DAY 6
The last day........
Lounged in our hotel room in the morning before heading out for a spot of shopping........again.

one of my favorite modes of transportation in Bangkok - Tuk tuks! (cheap thrill for me)
The hotel had their own tuk tuk service to ferry guests from the hotel to malls so we took full advantage of that!

After bidding the malls goodbye, we headed back to the hotel for some afternoon tea. Thereafter, we left for our 2 hour flight back to Singapore..
