The Technicolor Dress

It's no secret that I love Thai designers for their fit and unique pieces. My dress is from MistyMynx, a relatively newly established label in the Thai fashion scene. With its easy-to-wear pieces, its collection also includes a chic sportswear line. This dress is just that - easy-to-wear, casual yet eye-catching. Totally keeping in line with the latest the-leisure trend, its made of net material akin to those on regular sportswear, only much more stylish of course.

Toned down on the accessories front so as not to takeaway from the vibrant splash of colors on the dress. I absolutely love pieces which speak for themselves and this dress is just everything. Perfect way to add some color on a dreary Monday morning to uplift my spirits!

Brunchin'

To ease myself into the start of a new week, I decided brunch was in order. There's just something chill and casual about brunch.. Smack in between breakfast & lunch, it's neither here nor there. Yet it always makes the perfect start to a lazy day. Plus, you can almost always get away with having an assortment of both sweet and savory dishes on your table without looking too much like a glutton. My food partner-in-crime & I decided to venture out of our comfort zone (i.e. town), opting instead for a more discreet part of Singapore - Jalan Besar. After poring and drooling over countless food blogs, Jalan Besar's high density of hip and quirky cafes won me over. Think cool scene kids hangout spot.

Initially KIV'ed another cafe but alas, it was closed (note to self: always check opening hours!!). Finally settled on The Bravery Cafe although it was an unfamiliar name. After all, I'm on a constant quest to find hidden gems and this cafe, nestled amongst industrial shophouses, ticked all the boxes. Only thing left was for the food to satisfy my palette.

Since I just tightened my braces (yes this is my 2nd time doing braces :(), I was limited to food which was soft enough. Ordered the pancake stack which were so fluffy I could dieeee. It was topped with bananas, ricotta cheese, crushed pistachio, and heaped with a generous serving of syrup. YUM. Also ordered the truffle chips while my companion also had the lamb (not instagram-worthy enough to be pictured, ha). Nothing too special about the truffle chips but it was nicely presented and hey, at least it passed my instagram-worthy test.. ;)

Don't Ruffle My Feathers

My dress-down days often consist of wearing little to no makeup, basic coordinates and a trusty pair of flats/sneakers. As much as I wish heels were possible everyday of the week, they're admittedly not the most practical choice of footwear for running about town. However, comfort and fuss-free fashion does not necessarily have to cramp one's style (see exhibit A below). This is why I always love a good statement piece to help add that edge and fashionable spin to the most plain Jane of looks.
Today's OOTD could have been the most basic of ensembles - a plain white v-neck tee, denim shorts and adidas sneakers which I've worn to death since their unboxing. But of course, I didn't stop there. Threw on this statement blazer adorned with light feathers at the bottom to elevate my otherwise basic look, and voila! All good to go and face the world on this dreary Tuesday morning. Bare-faced and all but at least it looks like I put in some effort.

Btw, I've finally taken my dinosaur of a Canon DSLR out to play! Don't use it as much as I would like to just because its rather bulky to carry around but all pictures in this post were taken by it just in case anyone was wondering about the improvement in resolution ;) I'm by no means a camera aficionado but I'm quite pleased with the marked difference in quality! Also currently training my potential photographers (haha) so hopefully I'll be able to maintain the stream of good quality pics from now on!

6 months later..

Wow.. its been exactly 6 months & a day since my last blog post on this page.. I know I always say this, but I still can't believe how time has just flown by.

So much has happened in the past 6 months.. Where do I even start? The last time I left off, I was preparing to sit for my upcoming final exams. Fast forward 6 months later and I've finished my exams, went on amazing trips with friends and family in Europe, graduated university with a Law LLB (hons) degree, managed to pack 4 years of my life into 6 boxes (a reasonable amount considering how much stuff I had accumulated), moved back to Singapore, sat for more exams (ha) and travelled again. To sum it all up, the past 6 months have been quite a whirlwind. The next 6 months will also be crazy hectic, with more new opportunities & experiences in store for me.

I am clearly by no means a fully-fledged blogger. Although I've not been very diligent in updating, I hope to continue to utilise and grow this humble space as an outlet to share whatever insights or experiences I may have - be it fashion, beauty, food, and on the off occasion, to pen down some of my deep-rooted thoughts.

Will try to update this space with my trips in the past 6 months when I can fish for time - Italy, France, Greece, Korea and Bangkok.

Meanwhile, do follow me on my Instagram for more frequent updates! Also created a Snapchat & Dayre for more real-time and casual snippets of my life (not that I've much of an interesting life though) :)

The end is near..

Picture from the law ball last month.
Been MIA from this space for awhile now as deadlines & exams are looming.. Will be posting more pictures from the ball when I'm free, as well as my #ootd details from that night :)

Exams ending at the end of the month so I'll definitely be back by then!
Looking forward to traveling & all that free time.

Till then,

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to my beautiful mommy, fashion consultant, shopping partner, travel buddy, fellow foodie, confidante, private chef and best friend!

Some throwback snaps of us on holiday back in 1996 and she hasn't aged a day since then..

This Kangaroo is too funny....

my eye smile was pretty extreme back then.. hah.

I wonder if she will still tie my shoelaces for me now.... I'm guessing no.... LOL.

Thank you for raising didi & I.
(we're turned out to be relatively decent human beings.... if I do say so myself LOL)

Poolside vibes

I remember playing with my dad and brother in our pool all the time when I was a kid but I haven't used it for a long time - probably over a good 5 or 6 years now. Not really a big fan of the sun but since I was going back to the UK, I decided to make the most of Singapore's tropical weather and take a little dip.

Spring has sprung

Back in the UK now.. Although I'm thankful I get to go back during holidays, sometimes I think my going back to Singapore every holiday isn't very helpful because when I get back to the UK, my homesickness is heightened.. :( thank goodness I'll be heading back home to SG for good this summer! Studying abroad for 4 years is enough for me. With that being said though, I know I'm blessed to be able to study abroad as I know not everyone has this opportunity. As much as I complain about studying abroad, I do not regret it as I would not have gained such valuable experiences otherwise. For one, I probably wouldn't have appreciated home as much as I do now.

Anyways, had a good Easter break. It has just dawned on me that this will be my last official Easter break.... Can't believe I'll be graduating so soon. It's kinda scaring me how fast time flies..

Well on a positive note, the weather in the UK has been really nice lately. Let's just hope it stays this way!

Here's an overdue #ootd from when I was back in Singapore last week.
Love this pastel blue peplum top from ThreeFloors - don't think its online anymore as I got it quite awhile back but you may want to double check (link to their website is below). Also finally getting some mileage with my Celine phantom bag which I hardly ever use..

Fringed Leather

The piece de resistance of Monday's getup was no doubt, my fringed leather skirt. Paired that with my Chrome Hearts tank top which unfortunately, now has a slight tear at the top.. *heart pain* but thankfully, nothing that can't be fixed! :(
Threw this black neo Misguided x Nicole Scherzinger to add to the whole rock chic look I was going for..

Weekend Getaway

Just got back from a 4D3N trip to my favorite destination for an impromptu weekend getaway - Bangkok! I go so often that shop owners are beginning to recognize me & even call me their friend.. Lol. The last time I went was just back in January, when I was back for my Christmas break.

Some people may wonder why I love Bangkok so much. Well for one, its pretty much a known fact that its a shopping haven. Went there with a 9kg luggage and came back with a luggage double that weight.... Apart from the shopping, I also enjoy Bangkok's food and of course, my daily trips to the spa! Bangkok is where I go to relax and unwind so I'm always amused whenever I see people, especially angmohs, carrying big back packs and walking around in Bangkok.. haha. Although I'm in BKK often, I realized I hardly blog about it!

-

Took the early morning flight. As soon as we touched down and checked in, I went straight to Siam Paragon which was just right opposite our hotel.

Lunch at Another Hound by Greyhound Cafe. They dish up fusion thai food in a cafe setting.
My black pepper crab fettucini - definitely recommend this dish!

Weather was in the high 30s (degree celsius) when I went. Not complaining though, since its still better than the UK's bitterly cold weather.

A spot of retail therapy at Siam Paragon. Do check out their local designers if you can. Albeit definitely pricier than the local wholesale markets, the prices are actually quite reasonable for designer pieces!

lol. No.

Buffet breakfast at the hotel the next morning. Missing the huge spread they had.. Only a good breakfast can entice me out of bed.

Always love checking out the local supermarkets whenever I travel and buying their local snacks back. Siam Paragon's Gourmet Market has quite a wide selection of food and my favorite - yummy snacks!

Lunch at one of my usual go-to spots - SOMTAM, located at Siam Square Soi 3.
Always order their fried chicken wings, tom yam soup, som tam with salted egg and a basket of sticky rice. Though be warned, their food, especially the tom yam soup is quite spicy, so try at your own risk!

Cafe Aboong, just outside Digital Gateway in Siam Square. Finally tried their famous fish pastry filled with red bean at the bottom and froyo at the top!

Took the BTS from Siam to Terminal 21 which was only 4 stops away for more shopping.

Dinner at White Flower Factory @ Siam Square One. First time trying out this cafe and I was rather impressed. Even went back for round 2 on the last day of my trip.

Thai beef stew which tasted like a mix of tom yam soup and bak kut teh.

Fried catfish. Yummier than it looks!

Coconut cake x thai crepe cake for dessert.

Siam night market.

Thai yentafo noodles for dinner at another cafe in Siam Square One again.. So many nice cafes there!

Grainy iphone pic in my comfy clothes.

Mango Tango.
Located in Siam Square as well, this is another must visit place whenever I'm in Bangkok! Their mangoes are so sweet and fresh!

Visited the Hello Kitty Cafe in Siam Square One and it had a shop below it, complete with a nail spa.

Part of the Siam Square area.

Back at White Flower Factory for lunch on the last day of our trip.

Managed to squeeze in a last massage just before catching our flight.
Tea and mango sticky rice dessert served after our massage. Going to miss my daily pre-bedtime pampering at the spa.. :(

Hardly ventured out of the Siam Square area for the whole 4 days I was in Bangkok.. Some may be surprised by this admission but honestly, I just wanted to have a chill trip to relax and unwind, no rush. Some days I even stayed in the room till rather late to nap. haha. Really need to go on a diet soon because I gained weight from all the constant eating! :(

Will probably be quite sometime till I go back to Bangkok again since I will be heading back to the UK for exams and staying in Europe to do some traveling and for my graduation. Already looking forward to my next trip there though. Can never get enough of Bangkok!
