FOOD REVIEW: SYNC Korean Tapas Bar

This post is sure to pique the interests (and tummies) of Korean food enthusiasts and all foodies alike.

With the spate of newly established eateries and trendy cafes popping up in Serangoon Gardens, many have dubbed it "the next Holland Village". Since I live in the vicinity, I decided to explore my "backyard", so to speak.
After going to Korea this past July & taking a liking to Korean food, Sync Korean Tapas Bar, nestled in the heart of Serangoon Gardens, was one of the first places on my to-try list.
Nope, this contemporary eatery doesn't just dish up your traditional Korean fanfare.. They put their own spin on Korean flavors, serving Korean western fusion food a la tapas style in an east-meets-west concept.

The portions were just right - generous enough to fill my appetite. Between my 2 other dining companions & I, we wiped our plates clean and no morsel was left behind. Will definitely be reordering everything on my next visit!

At $49.90 for 6 tapas dishes, its safe to say that the prices are reasonably wallet-friendly.
Whether you're looking to try something new on the food scene, grab a quick bite or chill out with friends over a drink, this has my vote on being the spot to go.

Umami cod chips

Samgyupsal salad

Sogogi jowl

Korean pancakes

Cheesy topokki

Dessert: Hotteok

Christmas in the tropics

Christmas jingles often promote the fantasy of a white Christmas. On the contrary, due to my aversion to the cold, I'm rather glad to be spending my Christmas back in the tropics, humid weather & all!

Honestly, the novelty of Christmas wears off with every year I grow older.. Whereas I used to be the first person to wake up on Christmas morning, I now prefer to have a lie in instead.
Rather than the day I can finally rip open my wrapped presents, Christmas now holds more of a sacred meaning to me.

During this festive season, don't forget to share your blessings with the less fortunate as well.
Wishing everyone a truly blessed Christmas filled with love, laughter & joy!
Counting my blessings.

The Thigh's the Limit

The thigh's the limit

Warning: Some serious shoe porn ahead!

With winter fast encroaching upon us (at least in the UK), you may find yourself gravitating towards your pair of warm fuzzy UGGS - perfectly understandable.
On days you're feeling like something more dressy though, here are 5 knee high options that are bound to boost your style credentials to make up for those lazy-UGG-wearing days, whilst still keeping your pins all warm and snug.

CLOSET SALE!

Living between two continents means I've twice the closet space... Which really means that I've twice the amount of clothes than that of a normal person.
Moving back to Singapore from UK in half a year and there's no way everything will be able to fit my already cramped closet back home. Hence, the closet cleanse which ultimately led me to find a treasure trove of stuff, most of which I've yet to wear/use. Thought it would be nice if I found a new home for them & with someone who could put them to good use!

Everything I'm selling is in mint condition & reasonably priced considering the condition they're in :)
I'll incur the delivery charge so no worries, you won't be charged for extra it!

Feel free to email me at nicsammx@hotmail.com if you're interested in any of the items below:
include the item number(s) + name(s) of items in the email.

Happy shopping!

NOVEMBER: UPDATE

Finally submitted the last of my assignments for the term this Thursday. Feels so good going out to get some fresh air instead of being cooped up in the apartment trying to churn out essays.
Currently suffering from some type of allergic reaction but it still isn't going to get in my way of celebrating my freedom!

Dinner at this new Thai restaurant, Thaikhun, in the city centre right after submitting my assignments.
The food was scrumptious and is the closest I can get to being in Bangkok right now. :( Makes me miss all the yummy food in Thailand!

Hopped over to the yearly Christmas market right after dinner - always look forward to all the yummy treats the market has to offer!
Seeing the giant Santa Claus and glistening lights definitely heightens my festive cheer.

Although I was already stuffed from dinner, I just had to make room for my favorite dutch pancakes topped with a generous serving of nutella (I asked for extra) & whipped cream on the side. SO SINFULLY DELICIOUS & SO WORTH THE EXTRA CALORIES.

Chocolate coated apples at the market. Was so tempting but I got the strawberries instead.

Brunch on Friday.
Usually skip breakfast/brunch as I just prefer using that extra time to sleep in.. but where there's delicious food involved, I'm there.

Mid-shopping break at EAT cafe.
Since Starbucks in the UK doesn't have my usual order of green tea latte on the menu, I had to make do with EAT's matcha chiller despite the nearly sub-zero temperatures outside..

Apart from these recent happenings, life has been rather mundane.. 2 more weeks left to this semester & I'll be back home! Might be going on a short getaway to one of my favorite shopping/eating destinations so I'm pretty excited!
More updates soon.

Need a break

Three quarters into the first semester of my third and final year of uni and its already taking a toll on me....
Been caught up in assignments the past few weeks, which explains my prolonged absence on this space.
Currently taking a break from my attempts to craft intellectual arguments that actually make sense.... aka my essays which are due in four days time. My head is throbbing and the words just seem to dance around aimlessly on my screen.
Will finally be FREE (albeit momentarily) from the throes of all these assignments on Thursday! Can't wait to be liberated.

Till I regain my freedom, x

Asian High Tea

Manchester's weather is usually quite bleak around this time of the month, though it has been surprisingly pleasant so far.
Decided to take advantage of the little sliver of sunshine and enjoyed a lovely spot of hight tea at Grand Pacific this week. Managed to sit in the outdoor area without freezing to the bone - a rarity in Manchester.
If only this weather could remain.... Unfortunately, the Manchester skies already seem to be reverting back to their dull self.. Time to forsake style in favor of my trusty old ugg boots and thick down jacket :(

When you think high tea in the UK, you think scones, clotted cream and jam. I do like me some scones but Grand Pacific is highly raved about for its asian high tea, so that's what I had. Rave reviews and all, it definitely didn't disappoint!

Round 1: Savoury foods.
A yummy platter of salad, duck spring rolls, and an assortment of sushi!

Round 2: Sweet treats.

Raspberry & hibiscus tea.

Always feel like sticking out my pinky when I'm sipping on a cuppa tea makes me more sophisticated.. Anyone else do the same? Haha.

Sipping on a fruity cocktail concoction of mango & lychee. yummmm.

Even though I ate till I was stuffed, I would've traded the food for a pipping hot bowl of mee pok or mee hoon kueh or orh lua or nasi lemak or laksa or mee sua or chicken rice or bak kut teh, etc, in an instant.
Can't wait to indulge in local food again soon!
No amount of delicious food will ever replace my love for Singapore's local food.
