Last Thursday, I traipsed down to my local H&M in the hopes of scoring a few pieces from the highly anticipated Isabel Marant pour H&M collection.
This was my first time actually bothering to attend a H&M designer collaboration on the day of its launch. I arrived at 8.40a.m, naively thinking I was early. Of course I soon found out that other people were way ahead of the game, having camped outside the store in the wee hours of the morning.
For the record, If you ever want to find a bunch of grown women regressing into mean girls in high school, just head down to an exclusive H&M designer collaboration opening day.
It was quite the experience to say the least. 90% of the experience was watching women charge like a herd of cattle towards the racks. Billboards were toppled over, rude remarks were hurled.. (e.g. "I want to spit on you".. no kidding). Its no wonder H&M had to assemble a whole security team in the form of big burly men to standby on the sidelines of this "warzone".
I would be lying if I didn't admit that the thought of turning into one of them crossed my mind a few times upon finding myself shoving as many items as I could into the depths of my shopping bag whilst fending off middle-aged women from getting all the UK size 6's. You get the picture..
Even though I didn't manage to bag the more coveted pieces from the collection (beaded jacket *ahem* tasseled boots *ahem*), I'm still quite pleased with what I managed to lay my hands on.
To me, Isabel Marant encapsulates a hybrid of the effortless Parisian boho vibe mixed with a rock n' roll edge. I think this was well embodied in this collection, with most pieces seeming to belong in an off-duty model's closet.
I actually got these shorts from the kids' collection. I must admit, the sizes ran slightly big so I found myself being able to fit into most of the kids clothes (although some of the kids sizes were far too big for me as well).
This was a welcome addition due to the imbalanced ratio of gold to silver accessories in my collection.
Out of all the pieces I managed to score, my favorite would probably have to be a tie between the most understated piece of the lot (the white sheer sweater) and the shorts from the kids' range.
Which was YOUR favorite piece? & did you manage to get your hands on anything from the collection as well?
xx
