Post-exam weekend getaway: London, Day 1! (Part 1)

After 2 weeks of exams and putting myself under house arrest, my mom and I decided to take an impromptu weekend getaway to London. To start off the trip, London was basking in the 20dC sun when we arrived! Definitely a nice change being able to wear just one layer - a privilege in the UK! Pretty sure I was being rewarded for those 2 weeks of not emerging into the outside world ;)

En route from Manchester >> London

Usually hotels in Europe are not of the highest (or cleanest) standards. We booked The Cumberland, which according to my mom, whenever we went to London when I was still small samantha we always stayed at. Overall, it did not disappoint. The toilet is always a deal-breaker for me. But, I'm happy to report that although our toilet was a little on the small side, the fittings were all modern, and most importantly, C-L-E-A-N. Just like the toilet, the rest of the room also had a modern vibe. I always love coming back to a nice hotel room to wind down after a long day of walking!

By the time we checked into the hotel and freshened up, it was probably around 3.30p.m. Mommy and I then took a short walk along Oxford Street and ended up at Selfridges. Wanted to go to Snog, which, let's just say is the abercrombie & fitch of frozen yoghurt (apparently the highest specimen of our society work in a fro-yo shop). We decided to save it for another day as we didn't want to travel all the way to Covent Garden having just reached. However, didn't go in the end due to lack of time but there's always another trip! ;) So anyways, we decided to go for Pinkberry (located in Selfridges foodhall) instead, another one of my favorites!

After we finished with our pinkberry, we shopped around Selfridges for abit. For dinner, we decided to pay Burger & Lobster an obligatory visit. It has almost reached tourist attraction status now. A trip to London would not be completed without a visit to the Buckingham Palace - likewise, it would also not be completed without a trip to the iconic Burger & Lobster joint , right?
We could spot a sea of heads dotted in the distance as we walking up the street and I just kept hoping it was not Burger & Lobster. Of course, it was.. The queue snaked all the way outside the restaurant (it appears Singaporeans are not the only ones who like to queue). After queuing for 5mins, mom suggested I go in to ask how long it would take - 2 hours?! YOU MAD BRO? I actually tried telling my mom it would take 2 hours in quite a loud voice hoping the rest of the people queuing would hear and leave. Didn't really work out..
Seeing as how people are willing to queue, it must be really good/overrated
Definitely going to go much earlier the next time and try my luck!

After the wasted trip to Burger & Lobster, we decided to head back to Selfridges. I've passed by the Brass Rail numerous times but never bothered to go in. However, since my mom's friend recommended it, decided to give it a try. For a person who is not particularly fond of sandwiches, I actually quite enjoyed it! I'm no food critic but although the price is relatively expensive for a simple meal of sandwiches, I think it was worth it for the quality & taste of the salt beef!
